Advanced Diploma of Management

MKT101 MARKETING MANAGEMENT

This subject looks at combining knowledge of marketing principles with the ability and understanding of practical marketing to function effectively in a marketing role. Upon completion of this subject, successful students should be able to understand and appreciate forces affecting marketers and challenges they present to Australian businesses, recognize the influence and importance of culture when marketing to foreign segments, analyses environmental issues and decision those marketers are faced with, identify and critically assess emerging trends and opportunities in marketing for Australian businesses, develop and implement marketing solutions to address issues and opportunities.

MGT102 MANAGEMENT PRINCIPLES

This subject is an overview of the nature of management and traditional management functions. Upon completion of this subject, successful students should be able to understand the different functions of management, including planning, decision making, controlling, leading and organizing, understand the concepts of human resource planning, strategic management, international management, quality management, ethics and managing contemporary businesses, participate in the planning and introduction of change, including developing creative and flexible approaches and solutions, determine resource requirements, acquire and allocate resources and monitor usage.

CMN103 BUSINESS STATISTICS

This subject looks at the application of numerous statistical methods to practical business problems. Upon completion of this subject, successful students should be able to extract the best possible information from data in order to aid decision-making, understand and apply appropriate statistical methods to accurately assess a current business situation, be able to use information at hand to forward plan for a business in both the short and long-term, demonstrate skills in solving various business decision-making problems.

CMN 104 ECONOMICS FOR BUSINESS

This subject looks at the effect of both macro and microeconomic theory application to business decision making. Upon completion of this subject, successful students should be able to understand the concepts and basic models of economics and be able to adapt and apply these to real life situation, understand how the operation of the economy impacts on business and individual decision making, demonstrate knowledge and analysis of different market structures, understand the effects of market price controls, taxes and economic policy on monetary, social and environmental systems, demonstrate knowledge and analysis of the nature of international trade, money, financial institutions and the business cycle.

CMN101 COMMUNICATION SKILLS

This subject looks at understanding the relationship between communication and technology and the roles they play in contemporary business. Upon completion of this subject, successful students should be able to, understand the importance and credibility of both good communication and information management in business, demonstrate development of skills in both written and oral communication, and demonstrate development of skills in negotiation, conflict, intercultural and team management

CMN201 COMMERCIAL LAW

This subject is an introduction to the Australian legal system and sources of law. Upon completion of this subject, successful student should be able to, understand the fundamental principles of contract law, demonstrate an understanding of tortuous principles, understand the legal obligations of business organizations, understand the legal concepts of negotiable instruments, understand the principals of insurance law, and understand sales of goods and consumer protection legislation.

CMN202 ACCOUNTING FOR DECISION MAKING

This subject looks at the use of information generated by accounting systems for decision-making. Upon completion of this subject, successful students should be able to, describe the basic nature and purpose of accounting, demonstrate a general understanding of the principles governing the preparation of accounting information, demonstrate a basic understanding of how accounting information can be used in management decision making, demonstrate a basic understanding of how financial information can be analyzed using financial reports, demonstrate an understanding of some of the basic principles of business finance

MGT203 HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

This subject looks at the theory and practice of human resource management in Australia, in light of contemporary issues existing in the workplace.  Upon completion of this subject, successful students should be able to, take a strategic approach to human resource planning and staffing, examine effective human resource management by studying internal elements such as performance management, training and development, understand and deal with the influences of external environmental factors, such as workplace health and safety, anti-discrimination legislation and accountability, demonstrate logical thought processes focused on managing human resource issues strategically.

MKT 204 CONSUMER BEHAVIOUR

This subject looks at the theories of consumer behavior and examines the decision making processes individuals, groups and organizations go through when spending resources on consumption. Upon completion of this subject, successful students should be able to understand the concept of consumer behaviour and situational influences which may impact each stage of the decision making process for the consumer, understand the internal influences to consumer decision making, including information-processing concepts, motivation, personality attitudes and beliefs and their effect on purchasing behavior, understand external influences on consumer behaviour including family, household, social class and culture.

MGT205 OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

This subject looks at the techniques and approaches currently being applied by organizations for effective and efficient operations. Upon completion of this subject, successful students should be able to understand the role of operational management within the context of contemporary business, demonstrate understanding of the issues facing operations and the processes and tools which can be used to prevent or resolve those issues, demonstrate strategic decision making in applying management processes to operational problems, understand the importance of planning, evaluation and reporting processes as a function of operational management and demonstrate and ability to complete these tasks.

MKT301 STRATEGIC MARKETING

This course applies to senior marketing professionals who are responsible for, managing the overall marketing process and managing marketing personnel, providing strategic direction to the marketing function of the organization and formulating a marketing plan by developing specific marketing strategies and tactics inaccordance with the organization’s overall marketing objectives. .

MGT302 ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR

This subject looks at theoretical concepts and corresponding management processes and the outcomes on organizational behavior when applied effectively. Upon completion of this subject, successful students should be able to demonstrate increased awareness, knowledge and understanding of particular issues raised in an organization, demonstrate an enhanced ability to analyses, critically assess and effectively communicate a point of view, understand the relationships between theory and management practice, and demonstrate and ability to utilize this knowledge to improve future work performance.

MKT303 BUSINESS RESEARCH

This subject looks at the role and applications of research in a business /marketing context.  Upon completion of this subject, successful students should be able to understand key broad aspects of research including underlying philosophy, process approaches, core methods, ethics and the communication of information, describe the procedures used to handle and process research data, conduct basic data analysis and interpretation, undertake research activities to develop skills in problem identification, planning and resolution, present information and data in a meaningful way to aid managerial decision making.

MKT304 MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS

This subject looks at the pivotal role that successful dissemination of advertising and promotional messages play in marketing. Upon completion of this subject, successful students should be able to, understand the role of types of marketing communication and advertising messages in contemporary business, demonstrate an understanding of integrated marketing communications and the relationship between marketing communications and other fields such as consumer behavior and research, demonstrate an understanding of the use of promotional mix elements in communicating with consumers, demonstrate practical skills in creative advertising strategy and developed skills in designing promotional plans.

MGT305 MANAGEMENT OF NEGOTIATIONS AND EMPLOYEE RELATIONS

This subject looks at the complexity of managing human factors in an organization and how best to communicate with employees. Upon completion of this subject, successful students should be able to understand the nature and processes of negotiation and be able to identify different negotiation strategies, plan for negotiations, devising objectives and strategies to achieve objectives, understand of the role of negotiation in the workplace and how to deal with issues and problems within the workforce, understand the Acts and Regulations they will encounter in Australian workplaces, understand the Australian Industrial Relations system, Commissions and Tribunals regulating the industrial relations and other law in Australia.
